MilkADeal – Creating An Empire With Its Business Model
It all started in January 2011, when Wilson Quah and Shaun Lee decided to venture into a popular online business model. MilkADeal was doing well as a daily deals site with a growing loyal customer base. The idea was simple, but it’s the commitment to value that allowed the company to evolve over the years.
In May 2015, the management decided it was time to take a big step and turn MilkADeal into an online cashback portal. Since then, it hasn’t looked backed.
Launch and Growth
Wilson Quah was working as an Investment Analyst in an investment bank in London after completing his Masters in Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics (MMORSE) from Warwick University. He met Shaun Lee, a graduate of London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE) who trained as a Chartered Accountant at Ernst & Young London sometime in 2009.
With Wilson’s passion for operational efficiency and Shaun’s desire to lead business, they started an online wine business, but left it after realizing that their true potential was not being realized. After discovering that more value could be given to consumers in the form of deals, they launched MilkADeal 2011. In just a couple of years, MilkADeal became a leading online daily deals site in Malaysia, with over 70% repeat customers. Growth was good, but Wilson and Shaun believed they could grow more.
In 2012, Alex Yap, an Information Systems Engineer, joined MilkADeal as a Technical Founder. Soon after joining, Alex Yap strategized the revamp of the old system in order to keep pace with the growing demand in functionality and feasibility.
His vision and knowledge of both the technological and technical aspects of the business model made Wilson and Shaun believe that he was the right person to lead the change. His commitment to the company and hard work paid off when MilkADeal make its debut as a cashback portal in just three years after he joined.
No Looking Back
Creating value at each step of the journey is what MilkADeal is all about. Its business model has created a win-win situation for buyers and sellers. Thanks to strategic growth and good decision making, MilkADeal is now one of the biggest online cashback portals operating in Malaysia.
Today, MilkADeal is partners with Booking.com, Groupon, Agoda, Lazada, Zalora, TaoBao, AliExpress, ASOS, Expedia, and Hotels.com to name a few. Its reward system is simple. Users sign up with MilkADeal and shop from partner stores on the website by clicking the Shop Now Button. This redirects them to the store where they can complete the purchase. As a user completes a purchase, it is captured by MilkADeal, who issues a cashback directly into the user’s account. They can then choose to cash out, or process a transfer directly to their Malaysian bank account.
